![]() Member: Falamack Zaltash Age: 43 Resident of: City of Orange SCRR member: 7 years In profession and passion, Falamack is all about her hands and feet, literally. As a dentist practicing in Covina, it was one of her patients who introduced her to the sport of running and equally important, to the Road Runners Club of Walnut, after Falamack expressed her desire to be more active and be outdoors. Too intimidated to initiate contact, however, it was Coach Danny who called Falamack one day and invited her for a run. Shortly after, she ran a 5K and hasn't been off her feet since. Falamack's inspiration to run comes from the sense of freedom and camaraderie she feels with other runners, and the ability to go against all odds and to do something challenging. |
"Running a
marathon is one of the most difficult
things and always makes me cry. It gives
me such joy and puts things in
perspective in life," she enthusiastically
shared with me. She also said it conveys
a deep sense of accomplishment, which
provides comfort and confidence that
makes other aspects of life easier to
tackle.
Falamack's completion of 13 marathons, to date, is evidence of her love for this sport. In fact, there was a time in 2007 when she participated in a race every two months. Like so many other runners, her first marathon, the 2004 Long Beach International City, has been her most memorable. It wasn't her completion time or the inaugural nature of the race, but rather the overwhelming support of SCRR members that has made it the most heartwarming experience. On that morning, most club members showed up to pace her, even individuals she didn't know very well, which touched her immensely. Falamack's sense of accomplishment has fueled her ambition with a new goal: to complete a marathon in all 50 states. To date, she's checked off Arizona, Texas, Oregon, Illinois, and of course, California. The added bonus of travel and vacation just adds icing to the cake. As crazy as leaving your footprints in all fifty states sounds, there are such efforts happening nationwide, even attracting membership from the global community. Such organizations include the 50 States Marathon Club and 50 & DC Marathon Group which invite runners who have completed a marathon in at least ten states to join.
